Braverman frankly describes how the Christian effort to atone for centuries of anti-Semitism, culminating in the Holocaust, has contributed to suppressing criticism of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and suppressing the search for justice for Palestinians.

Justice and Only Justice: A Palestinian Theology of Liberation, by Episcopal Priest Rev. Naim Stifan Ateek (1989). Ateek articulates a liberation theology for Palestinian Christians living under Israeli occupation. A Palestinian citizen of Israel, Ateek is the founder and director of the Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center in Jerusalem.

The Other Side of the Wall: A Palestinian Christian Narrative of Lament and Hope, by Lutheran Pastor Rev. Munther Isaac (2020).

A Palestinian Christian Cry for Reconciliation, by Episcopal Priest Rev. Naim Stifan Ateek (2008). Foreword by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Ateek speaks out for the liberation of Palestinian Christians and Muslims living under occupation and at the same time calls for reconciliation between Palestinians and Israelis based on universal principles of justice.

A Palestinian Theology of Liberation: The Bible, Justice, and the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, by Episcopal Priest Rev. Naim Stifan Ateek (2017).

We Belong to the Land: The Story of a Palestinian Israeli Who Lives for Peace and Reconciliation, by Elias Chacour (1992). Fr. Chacour describes how he has managed, despite harassment from the Israeli government, to create major religious and educational institutions in Galilee.

One State Advocacy

One Country: A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse, by Ali Abunimah (2006). A thorough examination of the possibility of establishing one democratic state in historic Palestine in which Palestinians and Jews would live as equal citizens.

The One-State Solution: A Breakthrough for Peace in the Israeli-Palestinian Deadlock, by Virginia Tilley (2005). One of the first writers to articulate the parameters of the one-state solution, Tilley argues that the Israeli settlement grid that overlays the occupied territories will never stop expanding, or be withdrawn, and that a single state must be considered as the only just solution. She describes the major obstacles to this solution but believes they can be overcome.

Hamas Contained: The Rise and Pacification of Palestinian Resistance, by Tareq Baconi (2018). A comprehensive history of Hamas and its relationships with Fatah and Israel, addressing such questions as whether violence is justified, Hamas’ attitude toward compromise, how it stays true to the cause of liberation while also engaging pragmatically with international actors. this text to edit it.

US Policy

The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy, by John J. Mearsheimer and Stephen M. Walt (2007). A carefully researched study of the influence of the pro-Israel lobby on U.S. Middle East policy, how this influence is wielded, and its impact on U.S. national interests.

Our American Israel: The Story of an Entangled Alliance, by Amy Kaplan (2018). Examines the intimacy and shared sense of identity that have long existed between Israel and the US, and delves into some of the recent developments that are beginning to challenge the relationship.
