A delegation of PIN activists and friends traveled in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza May 22 - June 3, 2016. Here is a brief pictorial review of just a few of their encounters during that time. Throughout their time, the group met living examples of steadfastness and resistance to the occupation. These photos attempt to capture some of that spirit.
#1: The "beautiful resistance" of art and culture at Al Rowwad Center, Aida camp, Bethlehem
#2: "Justice" spelled out with rubber and plastic coated bullets collected at the Wi'am Conflict Resolution Center, Bethlehem. These weapons are lethal and are a common response by Israeli military to Palestinians peacefully demonstrating their resistance to the occupation.
#3: Horrifying art created by 4- and 5-year old children in Gaza who have known nothing but deprivation and violence. Gaza Community Mental Health Programme
#4: Gazans seek a few moments of pleasure at the beach. It is ephemeral pleasure. Fishermen's livelihood has been nearly extinguished by the illegal, arbitrary Israeli blockade of fishing grounds. Four boys playing football on this same beach were killed in 2014 by Israeli missiles.
#5: Children heal through play and story-telling at the Qattan Center, Gaza
#6: Women in Jabaliya camp, Gaza, demonstrate their project to make and sell cleaning products
#7: Donkey carts a common form of transport in Gaza
#8: Flying kites is an important way to express the desire for freedom.
#9: Palestinians in Hebron passing through an Israeli checkpoint at Al Ibrahimi mosque. Some Palestinians must pass through three Israeli checkpoints just to attend prayers. These vile checkpoints are a component of the settler project, supported by Israeli military, to cleanse sections of Hebron of Palestinians and all evidence of their lives.
