YAI General Convention Application
The EPF Young Adult Initiative (EPFYAI) at General Convention (GC) is designed to bring activist young adults together to observe and participate in the work of our General Convention. Each member of the EPF team will commit to preparing for General Convention by studying upcoming legislation related to peace and justice issues, monitoring legislation, speaking on behalf of issues of peace and justice, assisting with reporting of the work of peace making at convention, and participating in the caucusing sessions and special events of the Convention. The ten YAI participants, ages 18-30, are expected to participate in the program for the duration of the General Convention in Indianapolis, IN, July 3-12, 2012. No exceptions. Funded by EPF, this program provides participants with free housing and a per diem for food, along with (if needed) a modest subsidy to help defray the cost of transportation to GC. (Participants are encouraged to solicit funds from their parishes, bishops and other groups to cover the cost of travel and other incidental expenses.) Throughout their time at GC, participants receive guidance and support from YAI co-directors, Jessie Vedanti & the Megan Anderson. Participants selected for the program will be expected to participate fully in the YAI program as determined by the co-leaders. EPF YAI - GC 2012 will begin on the evening of July 3 and conclude on the July 12. Each participant agrees to prepare for YAI @ GC by: • studying upcoming legislation related to peace and justice issues at GC so to come ready to speak to issues that will be discussed at GC • participating in the full program day every day of GC • fulfilling responsibilities as agreed upon in daily YAI meetings • working collegially with other YAI team members • applying the principals of creative peacemaking in his/her daily work at GC • communicating the program co-leaders regarding special needs, concerns, etc.
