Two Futures Project: Conservative & Progressive Christians

Last week, 47 heads of state met in Washington D.C. for the Nuclear Security Summit. The goal of the summit was to foster international cooperation in locking down insecure nuclear materials.

Not being a sovereign nation, the Two Futures Project wasn’t invited to that meeting. But Tyler was in D.C. for the parallel meeting of non-governmental organizations, who joined together to discuss how groups like 2FP can work to help bring about a safer future.

Tyler took the picture on to the right from his plane on the runway at Reagan National Airport. If you look closely at the horizon, you can see the Washington Monument on the left, and the U.S. Capital building on the right.

It’s a random picture, I know. But it’s a revealing image of a terrifying truth: the immediate blast from a bomb the size of Hiroshima’s ‘Little Boy’ (a tiny weapon by today’s standards) would completely fill the space between those two buildings, vaporizing everything in between.

(FYI: Those buildings are almost 3 miles from the airport.)

Moving Forward

Over the past few weeks, the U.S. took several big steps in the right direction — concrete actions that help to reduce the global threat of nuclear weapons. But it’s not surprising that even the question of nuclear security would get pulled down in the current, hyper-partisan climate. Tyler addressed some of these concerns in the Washington Post — be sure to check out his op-ed: “Why conservative Christians should support nuclear abolition

We need supporters like you to help us seize this moment: a Biblical worldview can help drive a nonpartisan approach to a safer and more just world. Thanks for standing with us in these urgent times.
