From Illinois Coalition to End the Death Penalty |
| Pat yourselves on the back. You did it!
This afternoon, the Illinois Senate passed SB3539! Legislation to end the death penalty now heads to the Governor’s desk for the final signature of approval before Illinois becomes the 16th state without the death penalty.
This moment would not have happened if it weren’t for so many of you who called, wrote, came down to Springfield (for three huge lobby days in the last two months!), came out to our speaking tour, asked friends to sign postcards, emailed, prayed and never gave up. When we called for action, you didn’t hesitate. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Waiting on word from the Governor We’re working hard to find out what Governor Quinn will do next. With so many issues on the table this week, we don’t know when we’ll hear more. Despite our excitement and encouragement, please hold off on contacting the Governor until we know more. We know we can count on you when and if we need statewide action to call on the Governor to sign the legislation!
